Shaving the Sideburns

A man may not shave off the hair between the temple and the ear. Rather, he must let his sideburns grow at least four millimeters from the top of the ear. As we read, “You shall not round off the side-growth on your head” (Leviticus 19:27). If someone is shaving his entire head with clippers, some say he may also shave off the sideburns. Others say he must still leave four millimeters of hair in front of his ear.
