This World and the World to Come

The Rosh Ha-shana judgment relates to a person’s life both in this world and in the World to Come.

People judged favorably (“life”), in addition to being blessed with health and financial stability, will have experiences which will help them draw closer to God through Torah, mitzvot, and good deeds. If they take advantage of these opportunities, they will earn life in the World to Come. If, God forbid, they are judged unfavorably (“death”), in addition to worsening health and weakening finances, they will have experiences liable to distance them from God. If they do not stand up to these challenges, they will lose their place in the World to Come.
