Adults who studied Torah as children must constantly review what they learned. This prevents them from forgetting the basics and allows them to continue to broaden and deepen their Torah knowledge. Whenever people understand a little more Torah, it has a positive impact on their soul, improves their life (directly or indirectly), and adds goodness and blessing to the world. Therefore, it is important for every Jew to set aside time to study Torah every day, and even more time on Shabbat and holidays. Thus our Sages declare (y. Shabbat 15:3), “Shabbat and Yom Tov were given to us solely for the purpose of learning Torah then.”
Many important Torah works are available. Each one has its own outlook and emphasis. Everyone should choose the book right for them at that particular moment, which our Sages call “the area of Torah that one’s heart desires.” This means everyone should study the Torah topics and books that speak best to them. Nevertheless, it is a good idea to consult with a Torah scholar, because sometimes people might enjoy studying a certain book, but with only minimal gains.
