A Blessing to All Nations and Societies

It is not part of the Jewish vision to dictate to other nations how they should govern themselves or organize their societies. Rather, blessings that emanate from the Jewish people reach other nations by way of example and inspiration. Each nation and society can choose what to adopt from Judaism to increase truth, goodness, and blessing in their particular cultures.

The worldview of the Jewish nation maintains that all values are important, and each has its place. Thus, the Jewish people must carefully consider what is uniquely positive in each nation’s character and culture, respect it, and learn from it, thereby empowering and elevating it. The Jewish nation needs to perfect itself by absorbing the faith, truth, and good found in Torah and mitzvot, and combine that with what is positive in other cultures, integrating them into one harmonious whole. If they succeed at this, the more the other faiths will be blessed, bringing the whole world closer to redemption.

That is when the words of the prophet will be fulfilled:

In the days to come, the Mount of the Lord’s house shall stand firm above the mountains and tower above the hills; and all the nations shall gaze on it with joy. And the many peoples shall go and say: “Come, let us go up to the Mount of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that He may instruct us in His ways, and that we may walk in His paths.” For Torah shall come forth from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Thus He will judge among the nations and arbitrate for the many peoples, and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not take up sword against nation; they shall never again know war (Isaiah 2:2-4).

Furthermore, “The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard lie down with the kid… In all of My sacred Mount, nothing evil or vile shall be done. For the land shall be filled with devotion to the Lord as water covers the sea” (ibid. 11:6, 9).
