Therefore, if the mourners begin sitting shiva a little before sunset, those few minutes are considered the first day of shiva. On the morning of the seventh day, the mourners are offered brief consolation and are then told the shiva is over. Some conclude with prayers of acceptance and consolation then, following which the mourners get up from shiva. Many mourners visit the grave on the day the shiva ends and recite Psalms there to elevate the soul of the departed. This is often done on the thirtieth day as well.
